Miscellaneous Monday

Some Monday randomness….

I am….

Loving: All the Valentines day stuff popping up on Pinterest right now. Bring out the red, pink and white construction paper, scissors and glue, and lets get crafty making some homemade Valentines!

Craving: Chips Ahoy cookies. Ah, pregnancy cravings, never know what it will be! True story: When I was pregnant with our first, Kennedy, I craved fresh pineapple all the time. On the way home from work one day I called my husband and told him I had to have some, and I was going to make a detour to the store to get it. He offered to stop on his way home because he would be going right by a store. I went home, and while waiting for him to get there I could literally taste it. I wanted it so bad, had to have it. (if you’ve ever been preggo, this should make sense and not sound like I am crazy!) Anyway, he walks in with…get this…a can of pineapple. Yes. A can. Not fresh. I reacted in typical pregnancy fashion. I cried. My poor husband was seriously annoyed and at that point probably just wondered what in the world had happened to his wife!

Hoping for: More of the gorgeous weather we had on Saturday. Oh my goodness it was so pretty (and in the 60′s) I didn’t want to come inside! Now it is cold and rainy. I guess that is North Carolina weather for ya!

This weekend: We saw Courageous. Wow. Loved it. If you haven’t seen it already, make sure you do!

This Post: is #485 for me! Wow. That is a lots of posts! Thanks to all of you who pop in and read and look.

And since I always like to post pictures here; I’ll share a few from this morning. The girls often come get in bed with me as soon as they wake up in the morning. And we just snuggle and talk and basically get the day started off right. I love it. Honestly, Bristol is much to busy for snuggling, but she is learning to do it in 15 second intervals ;) She basically just climbs all over the place and makes Kennedy and I laugh. They always come with a lot of stuff. This morning we had two blankies, two pillow pets, a bunny, Minnie Mouse, and their Fisher Price Ipod Player.

Yes, they look adorable… and they are. But let me assure you, they are normal kids. They also fight…I just don’t take pictures of that! In fact, I had to stop in the middle of this post to break up a fight over a toy :) But they are again happily playing together now. Sisterly love.

Thanks go ALL who have entered my Giveaway thus far! I love reading all of your comments, there have been more than a few that I have read and thought “ah, I hope they win!” So it is a good thing I don’t have to choose, because I am not sure I could! Tressa Ann

There a few perks to shooting your little sister. (I use ‘little’ lightly since she is taller than me now and all grown up, but I will always think of her as my little sister I guess :) ) One being that I can take her to a cool field I happened to see while driving down the road. There were no houses around so I didn’t ask permission, and we just pulled off the road right onto the edge of the field…then almost got stuck trying to get out! I wouldn’t do that with a client because, well, it is unproffesional and what if we got run off? Then we would have to find another location to shoot at..but with my sister I don’t worry about it because I’ll just do her’s again later if that happens :) I also love trying out things that may or may not work, and just seeing what happens with it. Tressa Ann is always a good sport and we always have fun.

As soon as we got to our location she made the comment that she felt like Peter Pan in her outfit. She has since regretted her outfit choice, but considering she didn’t have a change of clothes with her, we just went with it…and I love these!

Happy Humpday everyone!

Miscellaneous Monday

Hello friends, Hello 2012!  I hope you all had a fabulous New Year weekend. I honestly can’t say I made any resolutions, I don’t normally make any ‘official’ ones anyway, but I would like to see myself get it together and get back to a better blogging schedule now that the Holiday rush is over. But obviously, I am not there yet (seeing how it is Monday afternoon and I am just getting this posted). And by the looks of my laundry room, I don’t have that together yet either!

This morning I woke up to one of the sweetest moments. I heard my bedroom door creak, forced my eyes open to see Kennedy and Bristol at the door, hovering in the hall. I propped up on an elbow and said “Hey girls, what are ya’ll doing?” Kennedy informed me that they had ‘made me breakfast’ and pointed to the nightstand where a plate of play food was sitting, along with a few pictures they had found in her room that they had drawn sometime last week. Then Bristol walks up holding a bowl full of little wooden chocolates and hands them to me! Seriously, I couldn’t think of a better way to be woke up :)   And, I hope that they will still want to make me breakfast in bed when they are old enough to use real food! ;)

I’ll get my stuff together and get some shoots blogged…till then, I’ll share these silly shots from a shoot I did with my Sister awhile back :) (I am loving the smiley faces today aren’t I?!)

More from this shoot coming up. AND a GIVEWAY! (may be this week…or next week!)

Happy Monday!

Hello :)

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! We sure did, in fact, I wish it wasn’t over… And in a way, it is not over for us yet, since we will be celebrating with out-of-town family this weekend :)   Meanwhile, we have been taking it easy, shopping for cheap wrapping paper and playing with all the things Santa brought us ;)

But, in an effort to not be totally lazy on blogging, I wanted to get a quick post up… I had this sweet new baby in front of my camera this morning, so I’ll share a little sneak peek of his eight day old sweetness…. Meet Sullivan:

Have a safe and Happy New Year!

Miscellaneous Monday

This post is late because, well, we’ve been busy this morning. Busy with things like drawing pictures for Aunt Holly’s birthday (Happy Birthday Holly!)…..

Seriously, that tongue? I love it!

Then we searched everywhere for Mr. Elf (who is currently hanging from the shower curtain) then we left for awhile and are now back home, with a pile of things we need to be doing. But, I wanted to sit down and blog a quickie post because I am not sure I’ll blog till after Christmas sometime. And I wanted to say a big MERRY CHRISTMAS to you all! I hope you have a wonderful holiday with friends and family.

A couple more random shots of the girls… I walked in the living room to find them snuggled up like this watching one of their shows last week:

I asked them to smile hoping to get a sweet picture of them together smiling. And this is what I got…

I guess I should have asked them to move their eyes down towards me AND smile. Oh well. ;)   Then Bristol got silly and attacked Kennedy!

Happy Monday everyone! I will be back after Christmas sharing some photoshoots with you. AND, sharing a Giveaway with you…so stay tuned!

Christmas cards; failures and making do….

So, I have all these fabulous idea’s for a Christmas card that I want to do with the girls to send out to our friends and family. I dream up all kinds of stuff. Then realize I’d be better off to just try to get a good picture of them. Telling myself the whole time that it may not go as planned (hence the reason to forget most of the fabulous idea’s) and to stay calm and not get my hopes up, and definitely not make a big deal of it.
You see, I have a slight problem executing photo shoots when it comes to my own girls. I dream of a great shoot including all the cool stuff I want. I don’t want them posey, or un-natural at all. I don’t feel like I am asking too much…I just want them together, looking happy, in whatever set-up I decide on. I want it to be fun and cute. But, it just doesn’t seem to be that simple.
Yes, they are 1 and three, not easy ages to shoot together. But, I manage to do it for other people.

So, with a good, positive attitude, and no high hopes. We set off for Take One.

Kennedy was all cheesy and ready.

Bristol was in no mood for it at all. She plopped down and had this ‘don’t bother me look’ on her face…

And it just got worse from there….

So we gave it up and tried again another day. It didn’t go much better. A lot of crying and not wanting to change clothes went on. Basically not wanting to do anything I suggested while getting ready, for that matter. I was over it before it even began. But, determined to get a good picture, I put a smile on my face, packed my Shootsac with Candy Canes and smarties and told my husband (who was thankfully here this time), to deal with Kennedy because I just needed her happy. We talked it up, told them how much fun it was going to be. Blah, blah, blah.

We ran out right before the rain hit and snapped as many as we could. The next day while going through the pictures, I was totally disappointed. My Mom happened to stop by and I showed them to her asking if I should even waste my money on a card this year. She laughed as she looked at the ‘better’ ones and said “Barbara, honey this is real life. You just have to go with it!” And so I did. I used these next four pictures and called it our Christmas card :)

The finished card looked like this:

So, Merry Christmas from our family to yours!

Hopefully they will one day outgrow this phase of refusing to co-operate with me on shoots…Meanwhile I’ll just enjoy my candids that I capture of them. Which I love, by the way. Here are a few of Bristol I shot recently…

Kennedy jumped in that last picture there. And while technically there is nothing right about it, I love it just the same :)

Have a wonderful weekend :)

Travis and Monica..with their four

We did this shoot on a perfect fall afternoon. Monica picked out a gorgeous location…we drove to a field then walked around the edge of it for awhile, crossed over to a cow pasture, walked a bit more till we got to this area that simply made me swoon! It was perfect :)

Monica, thank you so much for asking me to capture your family – as you are today. XoXo :)

Miscellaneous Monday

It really is true, Christmas is just better with kids! I can be a real kid about Christmas, I love the season, but now that the girls are a little bit older, it is even better!  Kennedy did a gingerbread house for the first time this year. And once we got started I wished I had bought two just so I could do my own! I really encouraged her to do it her way, and tried not to offer too many suggestions. She absolutely loved it and I loved watching her do it :)

First..we had to wait for the icing to set up…

I really thought Bristol was going to want to help, but she only lasted a few seconds and was over it!

Happy Monday!

The Black Family

They have talked about doing this for awhile now, getting the whole family together for pictures, and they finally made it happen a couple of months ago!  Trying to get everyone’s schedules to work together when planning a big shoot is never easy, but always worth it in the end.

Here they are – parents, kids and grandkids – in no particular order…

Thank you all for asking me to do these for you :)
